The Quality Score™ is our proprietary 100-point rating system (Methodology v3). It answers one question: is this hot tub likely to be a good ownership decision over the next decade? It is not a jet-count or a price score — it weights the things that actually decide whether you are happy with a tub five and ten years in.
Built on data, weighted by dealer experience
Every score is assembled from many sources — published specs, owner manuals, warranty terms, retailer listings, owner reviews, complaint patterns, dealer and service support, energy and insulation clues, resale and brand demand, and the real setup difficulty and hidden install costs — then weighted against a former dealer’s first-hand experience selling $12M of hot tubs. We do not claim hands-on lab testing, and affiliate links never move a score.
The 4 weighted factors
The Quality Score is review-led: what real owners report drives most of the score, adjusted by brand build quality, features, and warranty. Each factor is scored 0–10 and combined into a 0–100 score.
Because direct owner reviews are the strongest signal, the weighting shifts with how many verified Wayfair owner reviews a tub has. Tubs with 100+ reviews are scored primarily on those reviews; tubs with a handful lean more on per-model features and brand record; and tubs with no reviews yet are scored on specs and brand only — never on guessed ratings. Only tubs with 100+ real owner reviews can earn our top “Top Pick” tier, so a high score is always backed by real buyers.
| Factor | 100+ reviews | 1–99 reviews | No reviews (spec-led) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer reviews (Wayfair owner ratings) | 55% | 40% | — |
| Brand build quality & reliability | 15% | 25% | 40% |
| Features (jets, insulation, shell, power) | 20% | 25% | 40% |
| Warranty | 10% | 10% | 20% |
Formula: final score = sum(sub-score × weight) for the factors with data, rescaled to 100, then ×10. If a factor can’t be verified for a tub, it is dropped and the remaining weights rescale — we never fabricate a sub-score. Price is deliberately not in the score; value is handled by our price-band rankings, so a great tub is never penalized for being premium.
