Our take

What Master Spas actually is

Master Spas builds in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Family-owned, started 1996. They got famous for swim spas, not hot tubs. The Michael Phelps Signature swim spa line is top-3 in that category and most of their engineering attention has gone there for the last decade.

The Twilight Series is their hot tub line. It’s good. It’s just not what put them on the map.

That matters when you’re shopping. Walk into a Master Spas dealer and the floor pitch starts with the Phelps swim spas. The TS 8.2 sits next to them as the “we also do regular hot tubs” option. Not a knock. Just where the brand DNA sits.

After enough years on showroom floors, the pattern is clear: Master Spas buyers are almost always swim-spa-curious. Pure hot tub shoppers usually pick Marquis, Hot Spring, or Bullfrog.

The Eco-Pur trap

Eco-Pur is proprietary filtration. It works. Owners report 30 to 40 percent less chlorine use. Skin-sensitive buyers love it.

Here’s what the showroom won’t tell you. Cartridges run $60 to $80 each and need swapping every 3 to 4 months. Standard hot tub cartridges run $30 to $40 and last 4 to 6 months. Do the math: roughly $210 a year on Eco-Pur versus $90 on standard. Over ten years that’s about $1,200 more in filter spend.

Worth it? Depends on you. If you’ve got eczema or a kid with sensitive skin, yes. If you don’t, you’re paying for tech you’ll never notice. The lock-in is what costs you, not the filtration.

Should you buy this tub

Buy it if: You’ve got skin issues. Or you’re buying the hot tub now and a swim spa in two years. Or your local Master Spas dealer has been there 10-plus years with a real service team.

Don’t buy it if: You want maximum bang at the $13,000 to $17,000 price the TS 8.2 typically lists. At that money the Bullfrog A8L gets you the JetPak architecture and similar build quality. Marquis Signature delivers stronger warranty execution. Hot Spring Highlife crushes both on resale if you ever sell.

On the fence? Visit two dealers in the same week. One Master Spas, one Bullfrog or Hot Spring. Wet-test the TS 8.2 against an A8L or a Limelight. Same swim trunks, same temperature, same hour. Your body will tell you what the spec sheet can’t.

Score is 69. The hardware is solid and the dealer network is decent. The brand premium and Eco-Pur lock-in are what keep it from cracking 75.

Best for / skip if

Best for: Mid-premium buyers cross-shopping a swim spa, or therapy-focused owners drawn to the Healthmate sub-line.

Skip if: You’re skeptical of celebrity-marketing premium pricing (Michael Phelps endorsement is a real cost in the price), or your local dealer is mediocre.

FAQ

Does the Master Spas Twilight TS 8.2 need a dedicated 240v circuit?

Yes. The Twilight TS 8.2 is a 240v hardwired hot tub that requires a dedicated 50-amp GFCI breaker and a hardwire connection by a licensed electrician. Plan for $400–$2,000 in install costs depending on panel distance and local code.

Does the Master Spas Twilight TS 8.2 include a cover?

Cover inclusion varies by retailer and bundle. Verify on the listing before you purchase — a third-party replacement runs $250–$500 if you have to buy one separately.

When does the Master Spas Twilight TS 8.2 warranty start?

Warranty start dates vary by manufacturer policy on the Twilight TS 8.2. Most start on the delivery date, not install or fill. Save the original receipt and delivery confirmation — warranty disputes in this category often come down to documenting purchase date.
